Today at school we had "simulation day" for my Pediatric clinical lab. It's basically a bunch of us standing around this lifelike doll that cost more than a Lexus that can pretty much do everything a real person can do, well almost. So anyway, that was all good and great. We did well and it was learning and all. Yipee.
Then off to the media lab we go where there is Labor and Delivery learning gear out because we have that rotation this semester too. Well, let me tell you there was enough baby and vagina for everyone. Including but not limited too, a placenta that my friend Melody and I wore on our head, called a Jellyfish, and I attached to my own bellybutton. All of which are highly unprofessional but no one was there so of course we were like, "speaking of no one's looking". There was also, get this, a (and I quote) "Suitcase of Vaginas" to teach you what it is like to tell how dilated a laboring woman is. I wish I could take that suitcase to an airport and run it through Customs or something. It would be hilarious.
I guess we tend to try and keep learning fun.

I might actually enjoy this...
Well, this week has been my first week of 4th semester of clinicals. On Mondays, I have a Pediatrics clinical at Children's Hospital. Then on Wednesday, I have a Obstetrics clinical at UCSD. So far, so good. Way better than I expected! Although, I still know I DO NOT want to have my own kids now more than ever... they are pretty cool. Did Liz just say that??? Yep, I did. It was pretty cool. I even assessed and dressed a one day old little baby boy today and I didn't even break him! It was pretty cool and then I was looking at him and thinking... "Wow, you grew inside your Mom, and then you came out through this small area that sort of looks like it can let something out even though it really shouldn't and she is still smiling today, and she still loves you... Interesting... and just to think one day you are going to grow up and be big... I hope nothing bad ever happens to you." Yeah, that was a strange thought. I guess this cold dark heart has a soft spot after all. Who knows... maybe I might even consider being a pediatric nurse one day. Hmmm...

What I have been up to...
So it has been a while since I have "blogged." Needless to say I have been a little busy enjoying break. So much in fact that I have not even thought of blogging...until today that is. School is also about to start again...this makes me triste =(... This is what we have been up to. Adam was here for a visit too. Good times as always.

and I am not talking about Hooters either! Randomly stumbled across this today. Interesting. I did not even try to pronounce it.

The Grand Chawhee
"It's the Grand Chawhee's birthday!" That's right today Jimmy is officially a quarter of a century old. Happy Birthday. Happy Birthday. Happy Birthday. (I said this and danced a little jig earlier today. It was funny.) He got a tool box and a Johnny Cash print of a painting. (I am way too poor to spend the 500 dollars that the original cost!) Hmmm... if I would have thrown in a pair of overalls and some chewing tobacco we might just be white trash!

CNUBLVIT
Can you believe it? That ladies and gentlemen is the license plate on the first car I buy after I FINALLY graduate. (I want a Range Rover but I might need to start working before I pay up on one.) I keep thinking about it lately... Graduation. I think about it at the end of every semester because as they wind down I start to think "one day I will be at the end of my last semester."
So this means the semester is nearly finished. Three more weeks. Two more terrifying test and it's smooth sailing for a month.
Vegas, here we come!

Procrastination takes effort
Indeed it does. It takes much effort. I happened to run across this web site with "demotivational posters" and came across this one. Trust me it's well suited, I have been doing a lot of this lately!
Find your own demotivational poster here: http://www.despair.com/viewall.html
Now that my tests are done (for a few weeks) and I only have two more and one paper due I am taking a night off to drink wine... mmm.... lots of wine. One more class in the AM, then that is two clnicals down and only two classes left to take test in. I can see the end and it is beautiful!

Black Lemurs!
Ah, the interesting little facts that you can learn from watching Animal Planet. You see I put it on for Boomer when we leave the house to keep him company while we are away. So we get home from seeing "The Prestige" last night, very good movie by the way, and it is on. There is a show about animals (of course) and strange things that they do. I am intrigued, so I watch for a few. In the process I learn two things:
1. Honey bees can indeed get drunk from eating the sap of lime trees and if they show up to the hive wasted too often the other worker bees rip off all their legs. That is crazy!
2. Black lemurs get high. Yes, you read it right. If they come across a giant red millipede they pick it up and anatagonize it by biting it's head. This causes the millipede to excrete all kinds of chemicals, including cyanide. The lemur licks the millipede and rubs the secretions all over it's fur because they also happen to be a great insect repellent. It works like morphine and gets them all crazy high and they start drooling and acting strange. This makes the lemurs happy and yes, they are addicted in some form.
I found this to be the highlight of my day. Lemurs do indeed get high! I'm going to Madagascar.
Ha.

At last!

Free at last, free at last! Free from the chains known as clinical. Yes, yesterday was our last day of clinical for the dreaded third semester. Which so far, is living up to the hellacious rumors we all heard before it started. Yet, clinical was pretty awesome and a small part of me will actually miss it. Then again the only part of my brain which has still not been deprived of oxygen tells me that I am crazy. Either way this puts us closer to the end. Now, I am having the debate as to wether or not I should apply for an externship because well... I hear time is limited next semester too. I think there is an evil trick in Nursing school where every semester that passes you hear... "Don't worry, it gets better next semester." Then at the end of the current semester you hear the real deal about how horrible it really is next semester. So although I am quite happy that I am done with 3 grueling semesters of Medical-Surgical Rotation (I am not a huge fan, but I manage)... I get to do Obstetrics and Pediatrics next semester. Geesh... I really do not even know what to think or expect. I guess I will love it or hate. Being that I am not fond of whiny children I have a little seed of fear somewhere deep inside.

Like sands through the hours glass...
...these are the days of my life. Study, study, study, study. Take test. Go to the hospital and select my patient's for the next day. Eat and shower (quickly). Make these things called "mind maps" and look up medications and pathophysiology and learn, learn, learn before I go take care of people. Sleep, a little. Wake up. Clinical 12 hours, come home. Shower and eat. Is it sick that I consider doing these two things at the same time in order to multi-task and save time? Study, for 3 hours. Go to sleep. Wake up, dress. Am I really here sitting in a classroom about to take ANOTHER test? Oh my, yes I am. Wow- it is dawning on me that this really sucks. Finish test. Think to myself, WTF? Get confirmation of these thoughts from other students in the program. Go to the next class. Sit through lecture, an interesting one thank god. Although, when you are burned you are burned no matter how interesting it is. So I was really happy when I got to come home today. Needless to say... one more test to go next week, Pharmacology. Then clinical for 4 more weeks. Oh and not one, but two, TWO papers due. NO BUENO for Lizard. No rest for the weary. It's all cool though. I will survive, I always do. Really all I wish I could do is get some sleep. Good sleep, the kind of sleep you don't have to give up. You can just sleep and sleep all day. So tomorrow after work, I just might come and do that. NICE! Then guess what I will wake up and do... STUDY. Ah, one day I will be finished. Okay, enough complaining from me. There are probably a billion typos in my little rant and I don't even care!

I remember when...
Saturday night used to mean something. Saturday night was a magical unicorn that I wanted to ride. (Ride Sally, Ride!) Saturday night meant everything because it was the culmination of the weeks events bundled with a few drinks and a few laughs which suddenly made the world seem right again. Saturday night meant dressing up real pretty to go out and dance the night away. Now, Saturday night means homework, paper and project managing, and of course studying. Now don't get me wrong. I am not complaining. It's just that I envision my Saturday's a lot different than they play out. My choice Saturday does not include any of the things I did today. So until I may enjoy those fleeting moments of carelessness again, I will long for them. A girl can dream can't she?

I' be gone till November...
Just tell my friends that I'll be gone till November. (That is a song if some of you didn't know.) Anyway, the point of this little tid bit is to inform all of you that yes, school is in FULL EFFECT. I currently have more to do than I have EVER had to do in my entire student career. No really like a lot of papers, when I say a lot I mean 4 plus. Also, a lot of other random busy work because well I have to write a journal just about every time I breathe this semester. They say this is the "make you or break you" time. So just remember right now I am being tortured. So if anyone calls me or looks for me or wants to know my whereabouts. It is probably wisest to call Jimmy and ask him because I don't even think I know where I will be half the time. Also, please do not be offended if you want to invite me to hang out because I probably won't be able to do that. I am SERIOUS! It would be really nice if somone adopted my husband though. Just for a few months then he can come back when I am shiny and new again. Until I arise from the dust... love to all.
Oh and look at Boomer he discovered that the microwave is this magical thing that makes food!

You have died of dysentary...
Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Check it out. Jimmy found this http://www.virtualapple.org/oregontraildisk.html and promptly sent it my way. Oregon Trail oh, yeah! I used to be the master of this game in 2nd grade. Can't wait to get back in on that trail action.

A mosquito says what?
It says... there is Liz... charge! For many years we have pondered the question as to why I always get bitten by the buzzy little buggers more than anyone else... and happen to be "allergic" too. No, no lymphadema or anything just a big itchy welt. Bigger than usual. So today the question is practically answered thanks to Jimmy on the look out for juicy information such as this... read on... http://www.webmd.com/content/article/90/100719.htm

Respect
You know who I give respect to? Plumbers. They willingly go to depths that no man has ever gone to before and wallow in other people's crap. Literally. So next time you see a plumber. Pat him on the back, or if you feel uncomfortable touching someone exposed to fecal on such a regular basis, give a thumbs up, a nod, or a smile. Tell them thank you for keeping this world free of plumbing disasters. Now I can't wait till tomorrow when I can stop visiting friend's homes for showers etc. So a special thanks to Jen for letting me partake in my shower activities at her house the past few days.

La a la la la
So, I am sitting here. Wasting time. Waiting for the plumber. Sounds like fun doesn't it? Yes. Fun. So in the time that it takes to wait... I wonder how much will it cost? I have also just been informed that reruns of Pee Wees Playhouse are on Cartoon Networks "Adult Swim" at 11 PM. This takes me to a time warp. I used to love that show when I was a kid. Now I bet I watch it and find it somewhat distrubing... or love it. We shall see. Ah, back to await my date with the plumber. La la la la la..

Better late than never
Well, happy belated fourth everyone. I guess I should just say "Happy July!" It has been a while since my last blog so I thought I would share this with you. I was laying out in the perfect July sun working on my tan yesterday when I heard airplanes. So I look up into the sky and lo and behold writting in the sky. Right above our house. This gave me something to smile about!

Jury Duty
So I am sitting here this morning going through the pile of mail that I have neglected since getting back from vacation. As I am sorting I come across an envelope marked... JURY DUTY. I say to myslef, "Crap- I missed it." I forgot that I had called to postpone since I was going on vacation only to come back from vacation to forget I was supposed to go there... YESTERDAY. Now what do I do? Call and say, "Uh, sorry but I forgot?" Is there a fine? Am I in trouble? Should I even call to find out? Is it one of those things that if I never say anything no one will even notice? Or is it worse if I don't call to say I am a dumbass? I don't know what to do.
