That is what I am saying. I am saying I cannot study. I do not know why. Maybe I do not care. But I do care. But this seems to easy. How could I not know this. UGH!!!! Can't wait till it is all over.

Trick or Treat?

So tonight was Halloween and we did some menial decorating... enough to make the front of the house look inviting. I already took most of it down. Anyway, we were hoping to attract more kids than last year. It seems we actually attracted less. The first kids showed up around six-thirty and the last about eight. Huh?

I guess things have changed from the days when I was a kid and we would stay out trick or treating until ten and then roaming around until eleven or twelve. We lived in a gated community though. So maybe that was the difference who knows?

All I do know is this... there is a decent amount of candy left over and I was giving out handfuls. Oh what? You are only three? Well, here are eight pieces of candy and remember... brush your teeth!

Alright, back to the books. Test tomorrow. Evil.

Still burning...

So as we wake up this morning we see the fire situation seems to be improving. It is almost time to get a wide scale view of the damage. I hope that our friends whom had to evacuate will have homes left to go to. We will help anyone in any way we can. I still remember how it felt to go home to a house that didn't exist after Hurricane Andrew, and I was only 12 years old. I could still cry thinking about how hard that was and all the challenges we faced afterward. I hope to never experience that again for the rest of my life. My heart goes out to anyone who does. So the threat of immediate danger is over but now it seems the worst is yet to come.

Just fine...

This morning the skies have returned to blue above our house and the winds are clam. There is a perimeter of smoke all around us but right above us is slightly hazy but blue. Blue sky makes me happy! There is still ash in the air and it still smells like fire. All the fires are still burning but it seems that they are spreading to the east now. I hope they are under control soon. Today there is more help in the form of water dropping planes and such. We will wait and see what happens by sunset. I just want to go back to normal life. I am done sitting around the house watching tragedy unfold on the TV screen. Especially when it affects people I know.

Yeah, really. What a difference a day makes. We are still safe. No worries people. Although the skies have changed and it is snowing ash. Our deck is covered. Here are some pictures of the apocalypse that I took this morning around 0700.

There are 7 or 8 fires burning all over SD county right now. It's pretty crazy and way worse than it was during the fires of 2003. So, I went outside to take a few pics of the smoke rolling in from the South and East. So far, I think Oceanside is one of the only places that the smoke has not reached yet. No one in FL worry. Our home is not in any danger of burning. We do have friends in trouble though so send them good vibes! Little sister I hope you feel better soon. Love you all.

the music didn't die...it just turned off for a bit!

so, there was some dope sounding band playing in our neighborhood. i enjoyed 2 glasses of red and sneezed for about an hour. then when i finally started to become "normal" again. aka stopped sneezing. the music died. i was ready to go on a trek and find the source. oh well. now the dilemma of what to do tonight. i am left with the decision. i hate deciding. i always decide. can't i be co-captain for a change? i am the dictator that doesn't want to dictate tonight. social skills lacking. what to do?

So I am on the phone with my sister and she is making my niece, Tessa, some lunch. She says the funniest things sometimes.

My sis: "Why did you have to get the smallest fork in the drawer?"

Tessa: "Because it makes me look too cute."

I couldn't help but crack up.

The news is crap...

Seriously people, the news is pretty much crap. There is a TON of other WAY MORE IMPORTANT stuff going on in this world. I can think of a murder (here in SD) with some crazy scheme like the guy was obsessed with this movie where the character kills a cops daughter (the dead girl is a cops daughter). Plus, there was some sort of kidnapping or something else in Kansas and all the news can talk about is Paris Hilton. Big deal she has to go to jail. Like it will ever make a difference in her life. Maybe money can't buy you everything but going to jail is obviously great publicity. Even CNN can't stay away. It's their "cover story" on their website. How lame. Props to Google it's only the top story of their "entertainment" section. I'm glad she's in jail if that were me I would be in jail too. It's about time some celebrity is held accountable for their actions. It seems some are even able to get away with murder.

Mr. Rogers. Apparently the nicest guy ever.

If Mr. Rogers were still alive I would like to meet him. Perhaps take off his shoes. Maybe he would offer me the use of a cardigan if I were cold. Mr. Rogers's cardigan. "I would like to give you my cardigan." Cardigan. Say that 3 times fast.

I seem to have developed a little cold. Sniff. Sniff. Sucks.

Jaded

So finals are over and summer is finally upon us. Whew! Yet, I am jaded once again. Jaded by the fact that after I finally seem to pull myself out of the "stupid" (I know I am really not stupid) phase I seemed to have gone through my first two semesters of nursing school... I keep missing an A in like one or two classes a semester by 1 point or less. Most teachers in nursing school find rounding up, as you would in the ordinary non-nursing world, to be unquestionable. So that the two hardest classes I have yet taken in school leave me with the wind knocked out of my sails. I know that this has nothing to do with how smart I am, or how well we do, or how much I know. It's more of a personal thing.

It's like this, a person climbs a mountain for no one but them self and when they get to the summit, it's the best feeling in the world or perhaps there is a soda machine up there. They are satisfied. For two semesters I have spent months climbing to the top, and for two semesters I am jaded. Not by the fact that I did not get to the top. I did, and then some. I just got stuck with a regular old Coke machine instead of the Dr. Pepper machine that I had hoped for.

Then I get these scary thoughts like... what if I get dumb again next semester. Or even worse, in sixth semester when I take critical care... what then??? I may end up hating myself.

Perhaps all of us in nursing school are just unsatisfied over achievers.

Coolest show ever.

If you are like me, and like to watch the occasional documentary, I recommend this one. It's out on DVD and I think I must acquire it because I have not watched all of them and it's the best nature documentary ever.

You know who is an annoying human being?

Beyonce. Why are her 20 latest and terribly bad videos on every video channel continuously today? Is there some phenomenon I am unaware of or something?
